What is the Tough Mudder Adaptive Athlete Program?
We have a simple philosophy at Tough Mudder: Adventure is a Human Right. This means that we have a duty to ensure that all humans have the opportunity to experience adventure at Tough Mudder. The Adaptive Athlete Program is designed to give athletes with a range of impairments the tools they need to challenge themselves on a Tough Mudder course.
The program has three main goals:
-
- Educate adaptive athletes (and supporters) about what it’s like and what is needed for participating in a Tough Mudder.
-
- Provide accessibility to our events by mitigating inhibitory factors.
-
- Connect adaptive athletes with experts, supporters and organizations that can assist them in taking on a Tough Mudder course.
Although our Adaptive Athlete Program is a resource for athletes with any types of impairment, the following are some of the most common amongst our existing athletes:
-
- Vision
- Upper Extremity
- Lower Extremity
- Neuromuscular
- Seated Athlete
- Short Stature
- Intellectual Disability
Finally, this program is a completely optional tool for adaptive athletes. No athlete is required to partake in the program in order to participate at a Tough Mudder event.
